Hong Kong time 8 p.m. tonight will be the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony during which Liu Xiaobo, recipient of the prize, will be absent.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee decided to award Liu for his long and non-violent struggle for fundamental human rights in China. Liu is currently serving an 11-year sentence on the charge of "inciting subversion" after he co-authored a petition for political reform in China.
Liu's absence from the ceremony tonight has drawn comparisons to the 1936 ceremony in which Nobel laureate Carl von Ossietzky could not attend because Hitler had thrown him into a concentration camp.
