30 Years Later: John Lennon?s Final Interview

On December 8, 1980 he was fatally shot four times outside his apartment building in New York City, and today (December 8) the world remembers John Lennon on the 30th anniversary of his death.

The ?Imagine? singer/songwriter was only 40 years old when he died, having permanently changed the world?s musical landscape forever.

And now, Rolling Stone magazine has released Lennon?s final interview, given just three days before he met his demise.

In the interview, John took issue with the music critics of the day. "These critics with the illusions they've created about artists - it's like idol worship. They only like people when they're on their way up ... I cannot be on the way up again.?

Ironically, he continued, "What they want is dead heroes, like Sid Vicious and James Dean. I'm not interesting in being a dead (expletive) hero. .. So forget 'em, forget 'em."

"I'm not claiming divinity. I've never claimed purity of soul. I've never claimed to have the answers to life. I only put out songs and answer questions as honestly as I can ... But I still believe in peace, love and understanding."

Last night (December 7) Lennon?s widow Yoko Ono released a statement, saying"On this tragic anniversary please join me in remembering John with deep love and respect. In his short lived life of 40 years, he has given so much to the world. The world was lucky to have known him. We still learn so much from him today. John, I love you!"

Additionally, Apple?s iTunes Store recently released the Beatles? entire catalog for purchase for the first time ever.
